LDCM to benefit from Whole Foods Market Five Percent Day

Whole Foods Market® at the District at Green Valley Ranch will donate 5 percent of store sales on Wednesday, July 1 to Lied Discovery Children’s Museum. Individual Whole Foods Market stores give back to the communities they serve by holding Five Percent Days, which support local charitable, nonprofit organizations.

The community is encouraged to shop at the Whole Foods Market in the District at Green Valley Ranch, 100 S. Green Valley Parkway, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1. Museum representatives will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer questions and provide more information about new exhibits, such as Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body, on display through Sept. 7.

Grossology is here!

Lied Discovery Children's Museum is proud to announce the arrival of its summer traveling exhibition, Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body. Based on the best-selling children's books by Sylvia Branzei, the exhibition teaches children and families how the body works with a scientific focus on runny noses, body odor and other unmentionables. Visitors will be able to learn how your nose acts as an air filter and mucus producer, mimic the buildup of acid indigestion at the burp machine and climb on a large replica of human skin, among many other activities.

Grossology is on display in the museum's Cultural Gallery from June 6 through September 7, 2009.

Clifford the Big Red Dog comes to Lied Discovery Children's Museum

Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog opens at Lied Discovery Children's Museum Saturday, January 17 through May 24, 2009. The exhibit is locally sponsored by Target and Vegas PBS.

Inspired by Scholastic Entertainment's top-rated TV show Clifford The Big Red Dog on PBS KIDS, the exhibit offers numerous immersive "paws-on" adventures that reinforce "Clifford's Big Ideas" -- ten simple tangible life lessons designed to help young children navigate their world, including Share, Play Fair, Have Respect, Work Together, Be Responsible, Be Truthful, Be Kind, Believe in Yourself, Be a Good Friend and Help Others.

Kids can visit a colossal nine-foot high Clifford with a tail to slide down, just like Emily Elizabeth does on the television show. Children can help fill Clifford's big dog bowl with bones using a conveyor belt, and create sand art and find "bone"-ifide treasures at T-Bone's Beach.  Browse the Norman Bridwell Art Retrospective and see 40 years (that's 280 dog-years!) of artwork and stories by the creator and award-winning author of Clifford The Big Red Dog.
